Speech-driven reporting
Nurses dictate their client reports instead of typing them, saving around four minutes per report.

Led by a Buurtzorg nurse: colleagues can speak their client reports into a phone or Chromebook and have them written up automatically.
Buurtzorg Nederland has introduced speech-driven reporting. Nurses and care workers dictate their report on a mobile phone or Chromebook; the spoken words are turned into written text, corrected for medical terms and grammar, and stored in the electronic client record.
The project was coordinated by Joost de Blok, himself a Buurtzorg nurse, in collaboration with health insurer Coöperatie VGZ.
After a pilot with four teams, the option was opened up to around 900 teams. According to Dutch Health Hub (July 2024):
- about 4 minutes are saved per report
- around 16,000 reports are written across Buurtzorg every day, of which roughly 70% are suitable for speech input
- about 20% of nurses were using it at the time of the article
- reports are more accurate, and clients are more involved in the reporting
- it is especially helpful for colleagues with dyslexia
