Creating Communities

The principles that built Buurtzorg

Published in Buurtzorg’s 20th anniversary year

In his new book, Jos de Blok goes deep into the detail of how Buurtzorg is built: where the ideas came from, how each principle works in practice, how it differs from traditional “MBA” thinking, and how the principles interact and depend on one another.

The book has fourteen chapters: a foundation, the Buurtzorg principles one by one, and a closing chapter on how Buurtzorg keeps evolving. Many organisations, well beyond health care, now want to organise their own work on these principles. Creating Communities is the working title.

About the author. Jos de Blok, a former community nurse, founded Buurtzorg in 2006. In 2014 the Royal Society of Arts awarded him its Albert Medal for “a transformational new model of community health care”.
