Grupo Laços, Buurtzorg's partner in Brazil, is celebrating its fifth anniversary. On 1 October 2026 the group marked the milestone with a short film and a message on LinkedIn, looking back on what has been built since it set out to change the way Brazil cares for people over sixty and people with cancer, by bringing good care to the place where it makes the most difference: the home.

Five years in numbers

  • more than 10,000 people cared for over the long term
  • more than 400 colleagues
  • offices in 8 Brazilian states

Buurtzorg in Brazil

In its message Grupo Laços describes how it brought the Buurtzorg way of working from the Netherlands to Brazil, and combined it with technology that helps clients take the lead in their own care. The main ingredient, the group writes, has always been people: a multi-professional team, led by nurses, that makes the care happen every day. What the group learns from its data is used to make care more cost-effective and to develop new services.

The group thanks the health insurers, companies and partners who believed in it, and its whole team, and ends with: “Bora pros próximos anos, com os mesmos laços!” (On to the next years, with the same ties!)

How it began

The seed was planted in 2017, when physician Martha Oliveira, now CEO of Grupo Laços, came to the Netherlands and visited a Buurtzorg team in The Hague. In 2020 a first small team of nurses started providing integrated care to clients in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, and in December of that year we celebrated the signing of our partnership with Laços Saúde, with an online toast and a cake.

Parabéns from all of us at Buurtzorg!
