From one nursing team to many professions

Buurtzorg began in 2006 with four community nurses. Today the same way of working, in small self-managing teams close to the people they serve, is used by psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses, physio- and occupational therapists, youth workers, home helps and maternity carers, and new services have grown around them, from hospices to neighborhood housing. Each initiative started because professionals saw a need in their neighborhood and were trusted to try something new.
